Dr. Ruth Lieu

Dr. Ruth Lieu takes a warm, open, and active approach to engaging with clients. She works to help clients gain insight into the causes of their difficulties, to support them emotionally, and to help clients develop skills and resources to function better in their lives. Her work with clients allows them to have healthier relationships and to move forward to achieve personal and professional life goals. She helps clients through individual therapy, group therapy, and career coaching. Dr. Lieu provides services in English and Mandarin Chinese. 

Individual Therapy

Dr. Lieu draws on a variety of approaches in individual therapy depending on the specific symptoms, origins and characteristics of the individual, selecting the most effective treatment for the client’s circumstances. She draws from Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Interpersonal Therapy, and Psychodynamic treatment approaches. Underlying her approach to therapy is a consideration for how the client's identity and culture impact their life experiences. She works with client struggling with anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, ADHD/ADD, relationship difficulties, PTSD, trauma, schizophrenia, and many others struggles. 

Professional Consultations

Dr. Lieu provides professional consultations to other care providers and career coaches on issues related to depression, anxiety, and culture and diversity consideration in treatment.

Career Coaching

Dr. Lieu provides career coaching to help clients address a range of career issues from broad needs to immediate and specific challenges. Examples of areas where she has helped clients in the past include developing a career plan, navigating a challenging work environment, transitioning to a new career or job, identifying opportunities and inspiration for someone stuck in their career, and guiding someone through a job search. She combines coaching, business knowledge, and clinical skills to help clients succeed in their professional lives.
